‘Steel doors 2.0’ in collaboration with Remy Meijers

Remy Meijers is an experienced interior and product designer, for whom calm and balance are essential. He often uses De Rooy’s steel doors in his projects. Now, they have joined forces for ‘steel doors 2.0’. A promising collaboration, and we asked Remy a few questions about it.
“De Rooy came highly recommended”
A few years ago, Remy Meijers first came into contact with De Rooy. Remy: “De Rooy was recommended to me from various directions, for example by colleagues in the field. At one point, I was working on a project in Amersfoort, and even the contractor said I should really work with De Rooy. I did a project with them, and it went so well that I’ve continued ever since.”
Remy Meijers had already been using steel partitions in his projects for years. “I’ve had a lot of experience with other companies and I can honestly say that the quality of De Rooy is exceptionally high. I truly mean that.”
Absolutely brilliant
“I really see a difference compared to other companies I’ve worked with. I think De Rooy is absolutely brilliant. The price-quality ratio, the collaboration, the planning – everything runs smoothly. I can’t think of anything that doesn’t go well. Also, it’s nice that it’s a family business; you deal directly with the owner and the communication lines are short. The cooperation is very pleasant.”
Dual collaboration
Remy Meijers has a twofold partnership with De Rooy. First, he uses De Rooy doors in his projects. A few months ago, Marein and Remy came up with the idea to develop new doors together. “Since we already collaborate so much, we thought it would be great to create something special together.”
Steel doors 2.0
Steel doors are incredibly popular. Open any interior magazine and you’ll see them. Remy: “It’s time for a steel door 2.0. What exactly that entails is still a well-kept secret. I want to build on what already exists. By adding different details, I aim to take a new direction.”
Mister
Grey
Remy’s interior designs are known for their minimalist style. “I’m not into fuss. I prefer sleek, straightforward designs without embellishments. What you see is what you get. I want people to understand the design. I also like playing with combinations of rich materials. I generally never use colour; I’m very fond of everything in grey tones. That’s why I’m sometimes jokingly called ‘Mister Grey’.”
Calm and balance
Remy designs interiors and furniture, with a clear sense of cohesion. “I always look for calm and balance in everything I do. My designs must have a certain simplicity that makes me feel calm. I also try to take enough breaks between work, which keeps me open to ideas from all kinds of sources. I get my inspiration from everywhere: conversations with friends, a walk on the beach, a distant trip, sitting in a restaurant – I always pick up something.”
Creating wonder
Remy also draws inspiration from everywhere for ‘steel doors 2.0’. Projects themselves are a major source of inspiration. Remy: “When I’m working on a project, I think about what that project needs. What would be interesting to add to De Rooy’s collection? For instance, I’m currently working in a beautiful penthouse. Then I think about how a door is experienced in that space. I want the doors to evoke wonder. There are doors, and then there are doors. I want people to think: wow! That’s why I’m looking for a door that doesn’t yet exist, but does evoke that feeling.”
De Rooy doors high on the list
Remy is happy with the collaboration with De Rooy. “I think it’s important that everything ties together. From doors to sofas and so on. An interior only fits when everything is orchestrated from start to finish. That’s why I’m pleased I can now offer it all. I’ve already designed collections for various interior product suppliers – furniture, beds, curtains, floors, lighting, paint, you name it. De Rooy doors are definitely a great addition. In fact, they were high on my wish list. It’s becoming more and more complete.”
