Our passion for working with steel began in 1893 with great-great-grandfather Reijndert Dirk. Now, around 125 years later, the love for the steel craft is in the hands of Marein de Rooy. At the heart of the family business De Rooy Metaaldesign lies true dedication.
For years, we have been designing and producing handcrafted steel design products. In the 1980s, this started with entrance gates and fencing. Later, staircases were added, and since 2006, primarily steel doors. The combination of craftsmanship and creativity is highly valued by both architects and private clients.

The history of De Rooy
Smithy in Ede
Great-great-grandfather Reijndert Dirk starts a smithy in Ede, in a small shed measuring 2 by 3 metres.
Smithy in Renswoude
Great-grandfather Pieter Everhardus starts his smithy in Renswoude.
Construction company in Renswoude
Grandfather Reijndert Dirk starts a construction company in Renswoude.
Metal company G. de Rooy Metaaldesign
Gert and Wil de Rooy purchase a plot of land on Seringstraat in Ederveen. Together, they start their metal company: G. de Rooy Metaaldesign. In the early days, Gert mainly produces fencing and entrance gates. Later, chimney caps and balcony railings are added.
Marein joins the family business
Marein de Rooy, son of Gert and Wil, joins the family business after gaining work experience at a fellow metal company. Marein brings in his CAD drawing skills. The activities expand to include the production of steel staircases.
Opening production on Ribesstraat
Gert and Marein open the production facility on Ribesstraat, significantly expanding the machinery. This is where the production of steel doors grows, of which we are the pioneers in the Netherlands.
Nomination for Business of the Year
At the Business Event Ede, G. de Rooy Metaaldesign is nominated for Business of the Year.
De Rooy Metaaldesign officially trademarked
The company name G. de Rooy Metaaldesign is changed to De Rooy Metaaldesign to mark the renewal within the family business. In the same year, De Rooy Metaaldesign is registered as an official trademark.
Patent on production method
De Rooy Metaaldesign receives a patent for the way we manufacture the steel frames for our doors. This means that only De Rooy Metaaldesign is allowed to produce steel doors using our unique method.
Family business complete
Herriët Willemsen-de Rooy joins the team, completing the family business.
Production and showroom in Ederveen
De Rooy Metaaldesign acquires a modern production facility and showroom in Ederveen. The love for the steel craft has remained in the family throughout the years.
Steel doors with leather
De Rooy Metaaldesign introduces steel doors with leather.
Relocation to Veenendaal
We relocate to Veenendaal, where we have all the space needed for our growing production and an Experience Center.
