‘Craftsmanship with a sleek result’

We are always pleased to hear that our clients are still enthusiastic about their steel doors, even years later. One such satisfied customer is Renata Steenbeek, owner of LAB41 INTERIEUR.ONTWERP. In 2015, we installed a pivot door in her home. Read about what inspired her and how she experienced working with De Rooy Metaaldesign.

Solid
materials

Renata Steenbeek has lived with her family in a true family home in Houten for three years. Through her company LAB41 INTERIEUR.ONTWERP, she advises on the styling of residential and investment properties and provides complete interior design services. Her expertise is often used to enhance a property’s appeal, increasing its chances of being sold. She always opts for sustainable and solid materials. “I’ve become increasingly aware of the throwaway culture,” says Renata. “That’s why I prefer working with, ideally Dutch, suppliers who deliver a solid end product you can enjoy for years.” Steel doors are a great example.

Steel doors
create light

Renata also chose steel doors for her own home. “When we bought the house, we decided to extend the kitchen and create a spacious, light kitchen area. Because of the extension, we needed a separation between the existing parquet floor in the living room and the new concrete-look floor in the kitchen. To enhance the contrast between the kitchen and living room, we chose a partition with steel frames and pivot doors.”

Seeing, feeling,
and discussing

Once the decision to install steel pivot doors was made, the search for a suitable supplier began. “We wanted craftsmanship with a sleek result, not mass production. We visited several manufacturers. For me, it’s very important to see, feel, and discuss. How does it feel to open such a pivot door? Is safety glass used, and is the steel free of burrs? Do they listen to your wishes, such as the panel layout of the glass?”

Showroom
in Ederveen

Eventually, Renata visited our showroom. “We made an appointment to view the showroom at De Rooy Metaaldesign. It’s a small showroom, but everything can be seen and felt. Right next to it is the workshop where the frames and doors are professionally made. Another plus for me was the FritsJurgens pivot system that De Rooy Metaaldesign uses. In a home, I don’t want to see a large floor plate, which many other suppliers do use.”

Clear
agreements

“De Rooy is a true family business,” says Renata. “They’re down-to-earth and make clear agreements. Before production began, they came to take measurements. That was especially important for us because we wanted to build a low wall under the frames next to the doors. Alignment of the exact measurements was essential. The wait for the frames and doors was absolutely worth it. I was quite nervous when they were installed — would everything fit? But everything was perfectly measured. The installation itself was done very neatly. Protective cloths were laid out to prevent damage, and they even used a vacuum cleaner afterwards!”

Very happy with the
end result

Now, a few years later, Renata is still very happy with the result. “It turned out exactly how I had imagined. It’s also ideal in use. The kids are getting older, and when they’re playing or watching TV, we can close the doors and continue chatting with friends. It also retains heat better. With the fireplace on in the front room, the warmth stays there much longer. A good choice was also the door handle from the Piet Boon collection. We’ve used the same handle throughout the house to create unity. It’s also great to speak from experience when advising clients on interior design.”

At Renata’s home, we installed a pivot door with two side panels. A Dudok panel layout was chosen, along with DRM-P10 profiles and the Piet Boon (DRM-G5T) handles. Want to see more photos?
