Powder coating makes steel doors durable

One of the most important parts of finishing steel doors is conservation. We do this by powder coating, which gives the door its desired colour. But why do we choose powder coating instead of regular paint? A major advantage is that it increases the durability of the doors. The protective powder coating helps the steel frames last for years.

How does
powder coating work?

The main reason we powder coat our steel doors is that the coating is much stronger than regular paint. One of the reasons is that we can apply a thicker coating without it dripping. Technically speaking, the difference lies in the fact that powder coating doesn’t need solvents to remain liquid, unlike traditional paint.

Simply put, we spray paint powder onto the steel profiles. Thanks to electrostatic technology, the powder adheres to the frames. Then we heat the frames in an oven so the coating melts and flows out evenly. Finally, it cures into a uniform, durable layer.

Benefits of
powder coating

  • The resulting layer is far more resistant to wear and impact than regular paint — a key advantage for doors, which can easily be bumped or brushed against in daily use. Fortunately, the strong coating layer can withstand it, and the doors retain their stylish, robust appearance.

  • Powder coating is not only durable in use — the process itself is sustainable. Excess coating can be reused, and the process produces far less environmentally harmful waste than conventional paint. Powder coating our steel doors is a clean and environmentally friendly process.

  • On top of that, believe it or not, the production costs of powder coating are often lower than those of traditional paint processes.

Colour
possibilities

We can powder coat our steel doors in virtually any RAL colour. In practice, people often choose Black Grey (RAL 7021) or Jet Black (RAL 9005). In Groningen, for instance, we once delivered doors in Light Grey (RAL 7037). But it’s perfectly possible to match your steel doors to your office’s brand colours, such as the distinctive White RAL 9010. We’re happy to discuss your specific wishes to find the perfect colour for your doors.
