We install a stainless steel ceiling plate on the ceiling. The pin of the top pivot fits perfectly into the hole in the ceiling plate.

A pivot door and underfloor heating? Absolutely possible!
It’s perhaps one of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to pivot doors: can pivot doors actually be combined with underfloor heating?
We can be very clear about this: with our steel pivot doors, underfloor heating poses no issue at all. This is because we use the FritsJurgens pivot system, which only goes a few millimetres into the floor. As a result, the pivot system does not interfere with the underfloor heating. In this article, we’ll tell you more about the combination of a pivot door and underfloor heating.
What is a pivot door?
A pivot door is a unique type of door that operates differently from traditional steel hinged doors or sliding doors. A pivot door rotates around a pivot point in the floor. It can open in both directions, opens and closes elegantly and silently, is self-closing, and features a hold position on both sides. A pivot door does not require a frame, which creates a sleek and seamless appearance. You can read more about steel pivot doors on this page.
Underfloor heating is no issue thanks to FritsJurgens pivot systems
We use the pivot system by FritsJurgens—and for good reason. Not only does it offer a sleek and refined appearance, but it also functions flawlessly. Another major advantage of this system is that it only requires us to drill 8 millimetres into the floor. That’s extremely shallow, and precisely why underfloor heating is not a problem. Underfloor heating is typically installed about 5 centimetres below the top layer of the floor, which leaves more than enough space to mount a FritsJurgens floor plate.
Please note: FritsJurgens is an exception
FritsJurgens stands out when it comes to installation depth. Many other pivot systems require drilling 2 to 3.5 centimetres into the floor. That’s significantly deeper, and in such cases, there is a real risk of interfering with the underfloor heating—especially if you’re unsure of its exact depth. This is one of the key reasons why we exclusively use the FritsJurgens system. That way, you won’t have to worry about underfloor heating at all.
Installing a FritsJurgens pivot system
The diagram below shows the components we use for our steel pivot doors. A pivot door consists of four elements: a ceiling plate, a top pivot, the System M, and the floor plate. Two of these elements are integrated into the door itself—namely the top pivot and the System M. The top pivot is concealed within the upper part of the door, making it invisible. The pin from the top pivot fits perfectly into the ceiling plate, which is mounted to your ceiling. At the bottom of the door, we integrate the System M, which is also hidden from view. Along with the floor plate, this forms the anchor point for the door at the bottom.
Underfloor heating already installed or not yet?
Are you undergoing a major renovation? Or building a new home? Then you probably know exactly where the pipes will be placed and how deep the underfloor heating will be installed. Is the underfloor heating already in place? Then you can check the construction drawings. Even if you’re unsure, a steel pivot door with a FritsJurgens system is absolutely no problem. Underfloor heating channels are typically milled at a minimum depth of 18 millimetres—and your top floor is laid over that. So with a FritsJurgens system, you’ll have more than enough space.
Even ‘heavy’ doors are no issue
The pivot hinges by FritsJurgens are designed in such a way that the pressure is evenly distributed across the floor plate. This is one of the unique features of the FritsJurgens system. As a result, there is less stress on the floor plate. FritsJurgens often uses the stiletto heel as a comparison. A 500 kg door with a FritsJurgens pivot system rests on a 40 x 80 mm floor plate and exerts a load pressure (Fw) of 2.31 N/mm². By comparison, a 70 kg person wearing stilettos exerts a load pressure (Fw) of 6.87 N/mm². So the pressure on the floor from a 500-kilogram door is actually lower than that of a person wearing stilettos!
