Passion for steel, since 1893

Our passion for working with steel began in 1893, with great-great-grandfather Reijndert Dirk. Now, exactly 125 years later, Marein de Rooy is at the helm of our family business. The love and passion for steel has remained in the family throughout the years. Read our story — a history we are proud of.
How it
all began…
In 1893, great-great-grandfather Reijndert Dirk started a blacksmith’s workshop of just 2 by 3 metres in Ede. The passion for steel was quickly passed on to his son, Pieter Everhardus, who started his own smithy in Renswoude in 1926.
Pieter’s son, also named Reijndert Dirk like his grandfather, inherited the same passion for steel. In 1965, he started his own construction company in Renswoude. This was when Gert de Rooy was introduced to working with steel. He learned the trade of blacksmith in the company and focused mainly on making fireplaces. It was during this time that Gert met Pieter’s daughter, Wil, whom he later married.
G. de Rooy
Metaaldesign
In 1985, Gert and Wil de Rooy bought a plot of land on Seringstraat in Ederveen, where Gert started his own metalworking company: G. de Rooy Metaaldesign. In the beginning, he mainly made fences and entrance gates. Later, chimney caps and balcony railings were added to the range.
Marein was born in 1989. He gained his first work experience at a construction company, where he worked with metal. In 2007, Marein joined his father in the business, bringing with him skills in CAD drawing. That same year, we sold our first staircase.
Pioneers of
steel doors
On 11 December 2009, we opened our workshop on Ribesstraat, allowing us to expand our machinery significantly. In the years that followed, developments accelerated. It was on Ribesstraat that we expanded the production of steel doors — a product we pioneered in the Netherlands.
Developing
and innovating
The past years have been marked by innovation. In 2015, this was recognised by Business Event Ede with a nomination for Company of the Year. To mark the renewal in our family business, we changed the company name from G. de Rooy Metaaldesign to De Rooy Metaaldesign after more than 30 years. In short: craftsmanship in steel, since 1893.
