Interior trends: what do they mean for steel doors?

Trends Voor Stalen Deuren

An interior is more than just individual pieces of furniture, colours and materials. It is the way these elements come together that defines the character of a space. This is also reflected in interior trends: lines are becoming softer, colours warmer and spaces are being connected more deliberately. Steel doors are also taking on a different role. We explore some of the key developments.

From clean lines to organic shapes

Trend 1

Curved and organic shapes are becoming increasingly common in interiors. We see them in sofas and dining tables, but also in kitchen islands and walls, for example. Straight lines are increasingly being combined with softer shapes. This also creates new possibilities for steel doors. An arched top or rounded details give steel a softer appearance. This is particularly effective when a curved shape is repeated elsewhere in the interior. For example, a curve in a kitchen island, wall or piece of furniture can be reflected in the door.

Trend 2

The use of colour in interiors is changing. Warm, deep tones are becoming more prominent and are being combined with softer, natural shades. This offers more possibilities for creating a different look with steel.

A warmer coating can help steel complement wood, natural stone or other elements in the room. Think of bronze and copper tones (such as our Royor coatings) or a soft beige shade. A contrasting shade draws attention and makes the door a distinctive feature of the interior. A colour that complements its surroundings creates a sense of calm.

Materials can complement one another

Trend 3

Alongside colour, the use of materials is playing an increasingly important role. Interiors are embracing a richer mix of materials and textures, with different surfaces deliberately placed alongside one another. Steel can provide a beautiful contrast. A steel door pairs well with, for example, the natural texture of wood or the softness of leather.

Trend 4

The way homes are laid out is changing. Open-plan living spaces remain popular, but there is also a growing desire to separate different functions within the home. A kitchen can remain connected to the living room, while still allowing noise or cooking smells to be reduced when needed. A steel sliding door can strike the right balance between the two.

From interior trends to a steel door that feels right

At De Rooy Steel Doors, we look beyond the doorway where a door will be installed. We consider the interior as a whole and translate the lines, colours and materials of the space into a tailor-made design. We do this during an inspiration session at our showroom in Veenendaal. Trends can provide inspiration, but above all, a steel door should complement the space it is designed for.
